I couldn't sleep, so I boiled a pint of Twinnings' Earl Grey, added milk and sat at my desk thinking what I could do. After a sip from the pint I decided that since I'm already not sleeping, I might as well be drawing. Didn't do that for a while...

Of course, finding a proper model in this time of the night is a little bit tricky - it was nearly midnight after all. And so I went after the next best thing. Photo reference from a concert of a favourite singer of mine, Lisa Kelly from Celtic Woman. I really love her voice so drawing this was a pure pleasure and I finished everything in just over two hours, and that includes enjoying the tea as well as some midnight dancing, to Paradise Lost of all things. Don't ask why, it just felt good.

Two hours for the whole drawing doesn't seem like a bad tradeoff at all... Now when I look at my wall I get the feeling that I'm improving in at least something.
And maybe its just my impression, but charcoal drawings look a hundred times better than any photo ever could (though you'd have to see it on my wall to really appreciate the difference).
